Sekilas Kode Etik Dan UU Pers

Menurut UU No. 40/1999 tentang Pers, kode etik jurnalistik adalah himpunan etika profesi wartawan. Dalam buku Kamus Jurnalistik (Simbiosa Bandung 2009) Kode Etik Jurnalistik (KEJ) atau Kannos of Journalism sebagai pedoman wartawan dalam melaksanakan tugasnya sebagai landasan moral atau etika profesi yang bisa menjadi pedoman operasional dalam menegakkan integritas dan profesionalitas wartawan.

Untuk wartawan Indonesia, kode etik jurnalistik pertama kali dikeluarkan dikeluarkan oleh Persatuan Wartawan Indonesia (PWI) sebagai organisasi tunggal wartawan seluruh Indonesia pasa masa Orde Baru.

Etika berasal dari bahasa Latin, ethica, yang berarti aturan atau kaidah-kaidah moral, tata susila yang mengikat suatu masyarakat atau kelompok masyarakat, atau profesi. Sedangkan Pers adalah lembaga sosial dan wahana komunikasi massa yang melaksanakan kegiatan jurnalistik meliputi mencari, memperoleh, memiliki, menyimpan, mengolah, dan meyampaikan informasi baik dalam bentuk tulisan, suara, gambar, suara dan gambar, serta data dan grafik maupun dalam bentuk lainnya dengan menggunakan media cetak, media elektronik dan segala jenis saluran yang tersedia. (menurut UU pers no 40 tahun 1999). Secara etimologis, kata Pers (Belanda), atau Press (inggris), atau presse (prancis), berasal dari bahasa latin, perssare dari kata premere, yang berarti “Tekan” atau “Cetak”, definisi terminologisnya adalah “media massa cetak” atau “media cetak”.
